Refugees International: promote unbiased right to nationality for all Southerners
Refugees International argues that ensuring the successful transition of RoSS to a functioning nation requires the emergence of an identity that trumps the competing interests that current preoccupy the country. The report emphasizes that citizenship should be based on place of birth or familial origin without any regard to the person’s color, faith, tribe, ethnicity.
The report highlights early indicators of discriminatory decision-making by South Sudanese government officials, underscores the need to prevent statelessness in both Sudans and makes policy recommendations to government of South Sudan emphasizing UNSC Res 2046 language on four freedoms: freedom of movement, residence, property and employment.
